Very Solid GT Shell. 2.0 – 5 Speed – IDF Carbs
Here we have a very very tidy and solid MK1 Escort GT which we have imported from a collector in South Africa. Its a superb shell which is all detailed underneath and starts runs and drives well. We have paid all import duty and have done the NOVA declaration. The UK reg has also been applied for.
Bodywork.
Very tidy Type 48 export spec shell. Floors look all original, as do the inner wings, strut tops, sills, arches, pillars etc. Its got most of the strengthening that a type 49 shell would have, but not the studs through the boot floor. The last owner has also added tramp bar brackets. Its had new Rs wings fitted with the extended arch lips. Paintwork is maize yellow, which is a mustardy colour common on early mk1s, and found on a few mexicos and RS1600s. Paint is very tidy and car is all painted underneath. Panel gaps are good. No signs of filler. African spec GT stripes which are decals rather than painted so can be removed if required. Chrome round windows is correct for an African spec GT. Good rear bumper and front quarter bumpers. Most of the window rubbers look to have been replaced.
Mechanics.
2.0 pinto with Rs Alloy sump, uprated cam, IDF downdraught carbs, anti dive kit, lowered all round, poly bushes fitted, lsd fitted, Rs exhaust manifold, 5 speed gearbox with custom gearbox mount. Car starts runs and drives and pulls well. Think the carbs could do with a tune / rolling road session as it seems to run a bit rich. We have a very different climate here compared to where it came from. Obviously its a 50 odd year old car and will benefit from a good checkover and a basic service as we do not know when it was last done.
Interior.
6 Dial dash, rev counter not working but all other gauges are. Good oil pressure showing on dash. RS steering wheel, GT seats, black headlining. Good door cards and carpets.
Wheels.
MK1 RS 5.5 inch RS Alloys with good 185 / 50 / 13 tyres and centre caps. Wheels are powdercoated rather than a polished finish.

Lovely car which has had a lot of money spent on it, so you dont have to. Other than a bit of tinkering to improve the carbs / fix the rev counter its good to go You are welcome to come and see the car and we have a ramp so you can look underneath.
