Solid car with room for tidying.
1983 Ford Cortina MK5 1.6 5-speed. Recently Imported from South Africa with all tax and duty paid. Car is also now fully UK registered. Car starts runs and drives. Good solid car which is presentable but not a show winner for sure.
Bodywork.
MK5 Cortina shell. Very solid underneath. Looks very original apart from one repair been done on drivers floor pan which is very tidy. Paintwork is OK but not a show queen. Small bubble on windscreen scuttle otherwise pretty rot free. Good inner wings, original sills, arches and so on. Genuine Ford front splitter fitted and rear spoiler. African spec full chrome bumpers and spotlights.
Mechanics.
Good 1600 crossflow which was a factory option in South Africa. 5-speed type 9 gearbox. Brakes and clutch are fine. Car starts runs and drives but as with any 40-odd year old car will need a good checkover before sending it full tilt down your local B road. African spec Mk5 Cortinas had a 5-link rear end with a panhard rod style set up which increased the stability.
Interior.
Front seats are either from an XR6 cortina or South African RS2000. Door cards have speakers holes. Good dashtop and headlining. Carpets well worn on driver side.
Wheels.
Deep dish South African 1600 Sport steels with OK tyres.
